ROCKY MOUNTAIN FAIRY TALES
With Samantha Whelan Kotkas
and the Afiara String Quartet
Sunday afternoon, 1 February, 2009
Choose from 1:00 p.m. or 3:30 p.m. performances.
Come Early to meet the Fairies and for other activities one hour before each show.
Recommended for children aged 5 –12 and their families.
In the meadows above Canmore, fairies are known to meet and dance in the light of the full moon. If you are quiet and patient, legend has it, you may get to meet them. Children’s performer Samantha Whelan Kotkas will host an exciting 50-minute interactive afternoon of storytelling, music and visual art as the sounds of the Afiara String Quartet bring the rocky mountain fairy tales to life.
The all-Canadian Afiara String Quartet is the Morrison Fellowship Quartet-in-Residence at the International Center for the Arts, San Francisco State University, where they serve as teaching assistants to the Alexander String Quartet. Praised by the San Francisco Classical Voice as having “startling intensity” and a “powerful, keen-edged collective sound”, the Afiara Quartet was a semi-finalist in the 9th Banff International String Quartet Competition and a Finalist in the 2007 Concert Artists Guild International Competition.
